Furniture moving with a LEAF

The LEAF is a  compact car so one wouldn’t equate it to being able to move furniture; that’s what trucks are for. I found out that with the rear seats down a decent sized piece of furniture fits inside a LEAF, with the hatch closed!!

We saw a piece of furniture advertised on Facebook at a good price, the owners were having a  large garage sale after selling their home. We got the dimensions of the furniture and determined the furniture would fit in the LEAF with about 3″ to spare.

I should have taken better precautions when loading and unloading the furniture not to damage the hatch weather seal. I didn’t realize the rubber seal sits proud of the hatch opening. If it leaks I will need to glue the seal back in place. I should have used the carpet from the back hatch to protect the seal. I’ll be more careful next time.

Negotiating out of the driveway where we picked up the furniture was challenging, a steep driveway with nowhere to turn around due to the caravan parked at the end of the drive. I made good use of the reversing camera which allowed me to reverse up the steep driveway without running off into the grass or into the telegraph pole at the top of the driveway. The vehicle silently glided up the driveway, none of the revving and surging one would normally experience in a gasoline vehicle. The smooth ride of the LEAF makes it an ideal vehicle to transport stuff, the furniture didn’t move a smidgen in the 12 mile journey home cornering on side streets and zooming along on I-65.

I would not have been able to transport this furniture with my previous vehicle, a Chevy Malibu. The LEAF is proving to be a very practical vehicle for us!

I thought the LEAF was considered a mid-size?

The US Government classify the LEAF as mid-size. This classification is based partly upon vehicle weight, the batteries make the LEAF weigh as much as a mid-size vehicle.. If you stand next to a LEAF, size wise it’s definitely a compact vehicle. It takes noticeably less space in my garage than did my Malibu.
